I was stunned as I felt my body relaxing and the pain becoming smaller and smaller because I was able to regain peace and calm. This is what CARE is about.
I was admitted to this facility so many times I have lost count due to a chronic diagnosis. I have frequented this floor and unit before over the last several years and have NEVER experienced the care I received from this nurse. My challenges are almost always pain and nausea related and over the years I have learned different methods to try and cope with the discomfort and anxiety I suffer from during these unpredictable stays. I was having a particularly difficult time this last admission due to a progression of my condition and plain old frustration. One evening in May was the first time I was under the care of a nurse with the first name of Rougui. That evening my pain topped a 10 and I was literally squirming around on the bed with tears in my eyes unable to comfort or calm myself in any way. Not only was she professional and gentle, but this beautiful human actually stood by my side and coached me thru breathing exercises to relax, distract, and redirect my focus on the pain WHILE she was administering the medication. I have been dealing with my diagnosis since 2013 and have had more than enough trips and admissions to the hospital and NEVER has anyone addressed my whole person in real-time while giving care. I was stunned as I felt my body relaxing and the pain becoming smaller and smaller because I was able to regain peace and calm. This is what CARE is about. Treating the WHOLE PERSON. It was this initial experience and the repeat of that experience when I was blessed to have her for a second night, that prompted me to nominate her for a DAISY Award. It's the very least I can do to show my gratitude and acknowledge a truly gifted person. When I asked her how long she had been a nurse, she said a very fresh and new 2 years. Healthcare has hit a jackpot with this young lady. I am excited for her future and those fortunate enough to ever experience her healing touch. I'm sure she will have a long successful career in nursing and I wish her all the best.
