Gerianne's heart and compassion are how she leads. This is the mark of what a nurse is.
There is a saying attributed to Buddha that says: “When the student is ready, the teacher appears”. This nominee is our teacher. When this nurse leader decided to join the ASC division, I personally was ecstatic. Our division has traditionally excelled at quality measures, efficiency, and patient experience. What was needed was someone with a wealth of surgical clinical knowledge to take us to the next level. This nominee is that person. This nominee has demonstrated how she will walk a mile in the shoes of her team. She puts on scrubs and will circulate a case if needed. She is passionate about a psychologically safe practice environment. She is guiding and educating our ASC team members on how they can have a voice in their practice environment. During the pandemic, she has been a leader in promoting self-care not only to her team but also to our entire division. She is driving the effort that we extend the BayCare legacy of Pathways to Excellence to our division and that we will be a leader in quality metrics beyond publically reported measures only. Her leadership extends beyond the organization. Whether it is demonstrating to her children how you support your neighbor by helping a family going through the loss of work by helping with groceries and utility bills or when the tent city was set up by Catholic Charities early in the pandemic by creating care packages in your kitchen to distribute to the homeless. Her heart and compassion are how she leads. This is the mark of what a nurse is. A DAISY Nurse is someone that informs, educates, cares, and helps patients and families through the darkest hours of their lives and I would add a nurse leader is someone who does that for their team as well. I am proud and humbled to recognize Gerianne Fraddosio on behalf of the Ambulatory Division and her colleagues of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers as a DAISY Nurse Leader.
