I was not her patient, but Jamie took the time to find my husband and help relieve my anxiety after that terrible event.
My husband was brought into the hospital with minimal slurred speech. He was in observation for a few days and then sent to the stroke unit. The next morning, they were going to insert a stent. They explained it was approximately a 30-minute surgery. I waited in a large waiting room outside the surgical center.
After a couple of hours, I got nervous and asked if everything was alright. No one could give me answers. A nurse came out and told me there was a complication and the doctor would have to explain what happened. I asked if it was bad and she said yes. I waited for an hour and no one came out. I started to walk down a hallway and saw my husband on a gurney being rushed to MRI. I didn’t know what was going on. I ran after the gurney and the doors of the elevator shut. I sat on the floor and started crying uncontrollably.
I got up and went to the last floor he was on. I was delirious and did not know what was happened. I was just wandering around, looking for him. That is when a kind, compassionate nurse stopped me and said “are you ok?”. I broke down and she sat me in a chair and told me not to worry, she would find my husband. I remember her voice was very soothing and telling me we would find him. She took my purse and his belongings from me and insisted I sit in a wheelchair, but I told her I could not sit. We walked together to ICU and he was not in the room. She went and got information for me and helped me calm down. It was like an angel coming from heaven to help me. She left and I never got to thank you. She deserves this award. I was not her patient, but Jamie took the time to find my husband and help relieve my anxiety after that terrible event.
