I want to pass along some praise to you. A few weeks ago, a patient entered Meadows with COVID-19 complications. Unfortunately, he did not survive. I, along with family and friends, was at his side last night when he passed. A young nurse was caring for him. I also did not get to thank her for her time and attention to him. For the few hours I was there, she was very impressive. As the decision was made to remove life-supporting devices and drugs, she was calm, collected, and informed us as to what she was doing and why. She constantly assured the family and friends that the medication would make him comfortable and felt no pain. As this was a very trying time, that was comforting.
As he passed, she kindly informed us that his heart has stopped beating. She gently touched the aunt on the shoulder for comfort. She told everyone to take as much time as they needed. As the breathing device was still running, one member questioned why. She reassured them that she was going to get the doctor to pronounce him, and she would turn that off as soon as possible. Her demeanor and care were excellent. Please pass this along, and let her know I greatly appreciated her time and care for him in his final hours.
