Sergei is an OR RN and in his career, he is compassionate and a true patient advocate. I can describe multiple situations that he made decisions in the best interest of his patients and delivered excellent care. On a Saturday, Sergei was in the room taking care of an Ortho case, patient on the table when he got a call from ED with a patient with airway issues. They needed a tracheostomy ASAP. Sergei could not leave his surgical patient unattended, he asked for help from the house supervisor, assessed the situation, and took the appropriate decisions maintaining both patients in safe conditions. which resulted in saving a patient's life. More recently he had another surgical case that was finishing the first part of the surgery, the CRNA commented that the CO@ was elevated, Sergei immediately went to get the Malignant Hyperthermia cart (this showed his knowledge and quick assessment of what could potentially be happening). When he got to the room the team talked about the actions and Sergei delegated different roles, in the middle of everything he texted his manager, house supervisor, and director. They stopped the case at that time, put dressings on the patient, and did not do the second part of the procedure. The patient was transferred intubated to another facility for further medical care in stable condition. The next day the other facility was contacted to get an update on the patient. He was stable and was going to be extubated that afternoon.
