Lisa not only exhibited excellent nursing knowledge, but went above and beyond by always taking photos and putting them on her NICU door. We still have all these photos in my daughter's NICU scrapbook.
I gave birth to my first child and he was born asleep. I was only 18 weeks pregnant with twins. My daughter made it to 25 weeks before her dramatic entrance into this world. She had all odds stacked against her, but she made it long enough to survive and despite a 114 day stay in the NICU, today she is thriving. That is in large part due to the care she received from the NICU doctors and nurses, and the maternal fetal medicine team. My daughter's NICU course was not without complications, and there were days we wondered if she would even make it. Lisa, one of her NICU nurses, took care of her for many of her 114 nights in the NICU. Lisa always knew when to reassure me because I worried about everything. My husband and I are both physicians and we knew absolutely nothing about micro-preemies and NICU medicine. We needed a confident, experienced NICU nurse like Lisa, especially overnight when we were home. Lisa was never bothered by the fact that I would call at midnight or 6 am to ask how many "alarms" she had. I was always comforted to know that she was in Lisa's care. Lisa not only exhibited excellent nursing knowledge, but went above and beyond by always taking photos and putting them on her NICU door. We still have all these photos in my daughter's NICU scrapbook. We have stayed in close touch with Lisa since my daughter left the NICU and I always look forward to visiting her and showing her how well my daughter is doing. I am writing this on the eve of the third anniversary of my son's birth. That was a hard time in our lives, with a lot of uncertainty, but I look back on the care we received and am so grateful that Methodist Women's is where my daughter was born and so grateful that Lisa is in our lives.
