Lisa's dedication to Winter Haven Hospital and then the Polk Region is unparalleled.
The genuine love and compassion that Lisa has for the clinical education team and all of the nursing teams in the Polk Region is what sets her apart from other leaders. Lisa spends countless hours being present to help mentor her staff and peers, and to advocate for the profession of nursing. So much to the point, that she frequently can be found late into the night and early morning completing tasks at home because she has devoted her "work" time to making everyone else succeed.
Lisa's dedication to Winter Haven Hospital and then the Polk Region is unparalleled. After 31 years, she knows the people and the building like the back of her hand. No job is too big or small and Lisa always embraces the task at hand with a gracious smile and can-do attitude. Lisa works with many groups and collaboratives across the system and has led many through the years. She is also on the leadership panel for PCONE {which was just recently revitalized with the help of a few other BayCare nurse leaders). Lisa does not see a challenge and walks away, she sees a challenge and dives head-first into seeking solutions. Lisa encourages collaboration amongst not only her team but also interdepartmentally by seeking ways to educate the entire clinical team to improve the care of our patients in a safe environment.
Lisa is a mentor to her peers and an advocate for the profession of nursing. Through Lisa's consistency and presence, she makes everyone around her a stronger leader and a better nurse. Lisa basically helps us to remember "why" we are here. It is extremely difficult to try to put Lisa Schlagel into a specific category of leader but if you had to, Servant Leader would be the best description. Lisa is nothing short of the "Energizer Bunny" when it comes to working not only for her team but also all of the nursing teams in the Polk Region. And at the end of the day, Lisa is always there to lend a listening ear, offer words of encouragement, or to silently pray for your success. There are very few nurse leaders like Lisa Schlagel but thank Heavens she is here and part of our team. She truly embodies the essence of a DAISY Nurse Leader.
