I feel the Medical Care Unit demonstrated professionalism and excellence in caring for our patients.
Cammie was given a task to create a unit for COVID-positive patients. She was given very few resources to start. With her leadership and experience, she was able to build a fully functioning critical care department. Biomed (Michael Brungardt) and Materials Management (Brian Forinash) played a large role in the development of this unit. Cammie collaborated with all departments in the hospital to borrow equipment (and kept a log of where the equipment came from so it could be returned) to create rooms that would have the proper equipment for critical patients. She worked with Material Management to have the appropriate supplies to care for these patients.
Cammie was faced with several challenges and the main one was how to staff the department. Quickly it was determined that the COVID patients were extremely ill and would need ICU-trained nurses. Contract staff was utilized to fill the gaps while growing HaysMed nurses. Cammie gave many hours to HaysMed to provide the best care possible for our patients. This challenge never ended due to the high census of the entire hospital during a time when nationally there was a nursing shortage. I feel the Medical Care Unit demonstrated professionalism and excellence in caring for our patients. Each member of this team was able to provide compassion to our patients when families were not allowed to visit. They became everything to the patients including providing spirituality for those that requested it. I had the pleasure of working with this team for a month and they truly were a team. Cammie was there to support her staff during day and many night shifts. HaysMed is lucky to have this group of associates. Core nursing staff included: Cole Reichert, Kesley Belzer, Alex Wilson, Brittany Engelhadt, and Sara Worcester. Also mentioned are Jessica House, CCR, and Mackenzie Bear, PCT.
