My daughter was admitted to Children's for four nights. The first 2 nights we were there, Erika was our stellar nightshift nurse. She is a quiet shining star among the nurses on staff. I found myself wishing she was there to take care of us during the day and really missed her care the next night. As a fellow nurse myself, I really appreciated her communication style, letting me know exactly when she would be back to check on my daughter. Not only did she show up exactly on time, but she was so warm and comforting. Erika made me feel like she had time for us. At one point she could see that I was concerned and confused, and she called the night shift physician team to come in and talk with me. She stayed and made sure that she also was on the same page and even recommended other medications when what we had been taking clearly wasn't working. While these might be normal expectations for any nurse, not all nurses practice the same way she does. I was so appreciative of her care. From one nurse to another, THANK YOU Erika for being just what my daughter and I needed during a scary time.
