Sam cared for my grandma in her final hours when she passed with COVID and pneumonia. Both of my grandparents were in the ICU with COVID for about a week prior to their passing. It was absolutely devastating that the family was not able to be with them in their final days, and it was so important to us that not only did they receive the best medical care, but that they were shown love and compassion, particularly for my grandma with advanced dementia who didn't remember or recognize her family. Up until the time my grandpa passed away, we thought grandma was going to make it, but it quickly became clear that they were meant to go together. Sam went through the process with kindness and compassion. She took steps to let my cousin and my sister, who previously had COVID, hold grandma's hand while she passed. We had not been able to do this with grandpa so that time was precious. I am amazed by the grace with which Sam cared for my grandma after dealing with this devastation for so many months.
