Bri developed relationships with the patients and families which allowed for the interdisciplinary team to more thoughtfully and holistically provide patient-centered care.
Brianna (Bri) has been an exemplary student throughout the AGACNP program and has consistently demonstrated compassion, empathy, and dedication in the care that she has provided critically ill patients. In the past year, her preceptors have described two separate instances in which Bri developed relationships with the patients and families which allowed for the interdisciplinary team to more thoughtfully and holistically provide patient-centered care (one patient in the Burn Intensive Care Unit who had sustained life-altering burns and another patient in the CVICU who had recently received a solid-organ transplant but had a complex hospital course). In both cases, Bri took it upon herself to spend additional time in the patient rooms outside of what was needed for her student responsibilities, educating the patients' families and loved ones, discussing the complexities of the treatments that were being utilized, and fostering a dynamic collaboration between the patients and families and their interdisciplinary ICU team. One of her preceptors summarized this well by saying, "Bri truly takes ownership of her patients. She's flexible and adaptable... She's an advocate, collaborator, and educator. She will be an amazing nurse practitioner!"
