His injuries required suturing which, if it weren’t for Eileen, he may have required conscious sedation.
I just wanted to write kudos to one of the STAT nurses Eileen. First of all, all of the STAT nurses are incredible and a huge asset to the ER and the rest of the hospital. Eileen, particularly, helped us a tremendous amount one night. I work in the trauma bay, and we had a pediatric trauma patient come in. He was scared and acting out, and none of us were able to calm him down. His injuries required suturing which, if it weren’t for Eileen, he may have required conscious sedation. She stayed by his side for close to two hours holding his hand and talking him through the procedure. I tried to swap out with her so she could leave, but the patient begged her to stay with him. She truly had an amazing impact on him. She was also extremely comforting to the mother and able to calm her down during such a challenging time for her and her son. As a nurse who works in an area primarily with adults, pediatric patients, and their parents are a challenge for a lot of us. Eileen truly took control of this situation in a calm and appropriate manner and let us work with other trauma patients who came in at the same time. I very much appreciate her kind heart, professionalism, and caring nature with this patient, as well as the countless others she has helped us with. She is an amazing asset to our team.
