I am not sure how we could ever thank Cindy enough for what she did that night and what she does for our unit every single night that she is working.
It has been nine months since one of the most challenging nights of our career. However, we will never forget the dedication that Cindy showed to our facility, our unit, and our patients. It is hard to imagine how Cindy was able to be such a strong leader to our team on Family Beginnings during such a devastating night. Our floor was full of high acuity patients and each of our nurses felt her support and encouragement with their assignments.

During an emergency cesarean section, she responded to a call from the Emergency Department that not only one, but two obstetric emergencies were taking place. Cindy coordinated care between Labor and Delivery, the NICO, and the ED. She watched as a pregnant woman received resuscitative measures and supported the obstetrics team while they performed a bedside cesarean in the ED.

After witnessing the loss of both the mother and the baby, Cindy was immediately called to assist with the other obstetric emergency in the ED. As heartbreaking as it is, this baby also passed away. Cindy took on the responsibility as the support person for this mother who had just devastatingly lost her baby. This alone sets Cindy apart as one of the most compassionate nurses there are. Yet she did more. She lovingly took each of these babies and prepared their bodies for the families. She created mementos that these families will cherish forever. She consoled them during one of their darkest days. I am not sure how we could ever thank Cindy enough for what she did that night and what she does for our unit every single night that she is working. We all strive to be the selfless and caring nurse that Cindy is. We are grateful for Cindy's service and dedication to the Family Beginnings unit for over two decades. Cindy is loved and appreciated.
