Sumi always gives extra effort to make sure her patients have everything they need and more. She will bathe them more frequently, even do their hair, and treat the patient as if they were her own family member.
I have noticed Sumi's unparalleled and exceptional commitment to our patients at MGMC over the last couple of years. I remember first hearing the nurses on her unit talking about how she always gives extra effort to make sure her patients have everything they need and more. She will bathe them more frequently, even do their hair, and treat the patient as if they were her own family member. She has been an exemplary team player. This is definitely noticed and appreciated by her colleagues. I have seen her first-hand jump into rooms for other nurses when there is an unanswered call light or be the first to volunteer without hesitation if another nurse needs a little extra help. I was extremely impressed when I needed a patient sent for urgent neuroimaging towards the end of the day, she got right on the request with getting family to assist with the MRI screening sheet, contacted MRI, and made sure the patient had the study that evening. I truly believe she did this because she understood the situation and sincerely cared for her patient’s well-being. I did check in with the charge nurse and heard that this endeavor did delay her in leaving the hospital on time by slightly over an hour.

I feel that her selfless efforts, compassion, and commitment to patient care need to be acknowledged and rewarded at this level. This may sound cliché, but she is truly treating her patients with dignity and is an example of the quality of service that all bedside nurses should strive to provide for their patients.

Note: This is Sumi's 2nd DAISY Award!
