Mr. Jon Recana went above and beyond, volunteered his time, and provided strong emotional support to the recruit.
A young recruit was sent to the Emergency Department for medical evaluation. He was very distraught, overwhelmed with stress, and felt very frustrated with the process of boot camp. He was never away from home, became very tearful and emotional with the thoughts of missing his home and family. He requested to speak to a chaplain late at night. After much communication and collaboration, no chaplain was readily available at this late time at night. Mr. Jon Recana went above and beyond, volunteered his time, and provided strong emotional support to the recruit. After Jon’s interaction and words of encouragement, this recruit was able to display better coping mechanisms and proceeded to return to base.
