Renju knew the patient would stay in pain over the weekend if she didn’t act quickly.
Ms. Renju had a patient on bladder irrigation, but he was all clotted up and was in so much pain on a Friday. She knew the patient would stay in pain over the weekend if she didn’t act quickly. She made sure the attending doctor and urology were brought to the bedside to take care of the patient issue to get the clots out before they left for the weekend. The rate of bladder irrigation was kept higher to make sure he didn’t clot again. The patient told her “if it was not for you…I had already spoken to my wife to bring an ambulance and pick me up on Friday but just because you took care of me I am staying.” She was not feeling well herself on Sunday but still came into work so that she could continue to take care of the patient and make sure he was comfortable till Monday’s surgery.
