He filled the void of my not being able to have friends and family there.
I originally presented as an extremely sick COVID patient upon triage & arrival to the ER and was put on the COVID unit until they got my negative tests back. While on the COVID unit David was my nurse for three days and made such a scary situation easier for me. He was nothing but upbeat and made me smile – even while I was extremely sick - every time he entered the room!! The entire UCLA team who took care of me was extraordinary but this nurse stands out. During a pandemic, he walked into work every morning with a huge smile on his face. I'm so grateful I had an angel at my bedside for 3 days in a row while on a COVID unit. He played a huge role in my recovery and I will always remember his kindness & passion.
He was encouraging not to be scared. He filled the void of my not being able to have friends and family there. Every night before he left he made it a point to say "good night and I'll see you in the morning." The second night - I was not well, dosing off...he made it a point to touch my arm, "This is David, I will see you tomorrow. I hope you have a good night’s sleep and I will see you tomorrow." I was able to trust him and know that he would be there in the morning. I had him for three days and two nights. He made me feel so much better.  I knew I could trust him and believed when he told me I would be fine and would see him tomorrow. His commitment, passion, and encouragement, especially on a COVID floor, were extraordinary. He put his life on the line on this unit for me and the other patients. All my nurses were amazing, but this nurse is really a special asset.
