Sylvia took the time to write a prayer out for this patient and prayed with him at the bedside...something he was grateful for.
Sylvia is a part of the float pool and frequently gets assigned to the ICU. She takes any assignment given with willingness and is greatly respected by both the providers and nursing staff in the ICU. Sylvia's knowledge of nursing demands the respect of her co-workers for sure; however, today, I am writing in regards to her endless compassion.

On Friday, Sylvia was caring for a Covid + patient in the ICU. My office is in "covid alley", so I was able to lend her a hand in repositioning this patient. While talking with her afterward at her desk, I noticed a piece of paper on top of the patient’s chart. Being the nosy person I am, I immediately began to read what it said and quickly saw that it was a prayer. With further 'investigating" I learned that the family had called and asked her to pray with their loved one: she did. She took the time to write a prayer out for this patient and prayed with him at the bedside...something he was grateful for. The act took my breath away. If there is anything that I have learned during my time as a nurse, it is that a patient's spiritual health is as important as their physical health; in my opinion. I know what prayer would mean to me in this situation. I feel I understand how important it was to that family and patient to have a nurse that cared for every aspect of his well-being. Sylvia has many qualities that over qualify her for a DAISY Award and she’s one of the best nurses I have ever had the privilege of working with.
