If you spend time listening to Jennifer talk about her departments, it’s easy to identify the “why” behind her departmental successes. Her passion and excitement are contagious.
In the 6 years that Jennifer has been with Regional Hospital, I have enjoyed working with her. I have admired her leadership and her accomplishments. However, in the short time in my CNO role, I have seen more closely the work that she does and the passion that she possesses for Women’s Health and her team. In her time here, she has transitioned the unit from separate Postpartum and Nursery care to a couplet care model. Throughout this transition, she has grown a Level 2 NICU and maintained top box patient satisfaction scores in her departments.

In addition, she has supported her staff in obtaining professional certifications. In fact, 65% of our Labor and Delivery nurses have obtained their Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification. Jennifer’s support for additional training made this possible and as a secondary benefit, reduced our primary C-Section rate well below goal, which equates to better patient outcomes. She encourages her staff strive for professional development opportunities and is one of the first leaders to implement the Clinical Nurse Coordinator program on her floor.

Jennifer also served on the Indiana Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative Team for Maternal Hemorrhage and enrolled the unit in the Indiana AIM (Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health) initiative. She also serves on Vigo County’s Fetal-Infant Mortality Review Committee and is a Member of the Central Southwest Region Community Action Network. Jennifer’s work as a leader helped her departments to receive an Inspire Hospital of Distinction Award. In addition, her areas achieved BlueCross BlueShield Distinction Center for Maternity Care. If you spend time listening to Jennifer talk about her departments, it’s easy to identify the “why” behind her departmental successes. Her passion and excitement are contagious.

During the COVID pandemic that rocked everyone in healthcare, our 2nd Floor staff was inundated with volume. Jennifer spent many hours on the floor helping her team care for the increased volume, and in her spare time, managed to complete her MSN. She also maintains her NRP instructor status and supports our staff and physicians as the primary instructor for this credential. Jennifer is a true leader and I’m proud to have her on my team.
