I would love to boast about a great nurse we had with my son's care recently. My son was admitted. Tracy Mackey RN was his day nurse for 2 days of his stay.  He was there for a GI "Clean out" with an NG tube. He is still asking about her! My son is extremely shy, especially when it comes to his bathroom issues. Tracy was so great at handling him and having patience with him and making sure he was as comfortable as he could be with her care. She took the time to learn his boundaries and never was pushy with him and always explained everything to him. He had asked a TON of questions and she answered every single one as clear as she could for him a while making sure he understood what was going on and didn't get frustrated or rush him through his questions. It made him much more comfortable with the processes that were going on. The stay was rough on the both of us as I am 7 months pregnant and he is a very active little boy. Being stuck in that room was not easy for either of us on top of the uncomfortable things he had to do for himself obviously. It's nurses like Tracy that help make those situations a lot more bearable. She also put in more time and effort than her job entailed to make sure at the end of our stay we were taken care of and released promptly. We could have not left till late that night or the next day but she made sure even though it was pretty much time for her to go she made him a priority first. I am just so blessed that he had such an awesome nurse for this stay. He was very nervous about this and it wasn't easy to get him to accept. He remembers her though, and is still saying "I miss Tracy". So please recognize this amazing nurse for being so good to my son and knowing how important she was to him during this time. We couldn't have asked for a better nurse to take care of him. Please let her know how thankful we are! Keep up the great work Dayton Children's!
