Some of the qualities a good nurse should possess are being knowledgeable, reliable, caring, empathetic, and compassionate. My co-worker, Isabela, possesses all of these qualities and many more. This week she and I shared the care of a very special patient that did not have family support and was near end of life. In this patient’s last moments, Isabela cared for her tenderly. She immediately went to the patient’s side, took her hand, and said “You are not alone, I am here with you and I will not leave you”. Isabela delivered exceptional care and showed tremendous compassion all the way to the end. This is just one of many examples of Isabela’s dedication and service. She is a source of positivity and a joy to work with. She is an asset to 10K, Sentara, and the nursing profession.
