Chris made this Christmas special for all of us who were around him to witness his acts of kindness and charity.
Chris is the living example of being benevolent and making sure the right hand doesn't know what the left is giving. Over the last few years, I have personally witnessed Chris literally take the shoes off his feet and give them to his coworkers whose shoes were worn or otherwise unfit. This Christmas, he noticed that a night shift coworker could use an upgrade, so Chris took off the brand new pair of Nike's that he just bought for himself a week before and gave them to his coworker. He didn't even take anything in return, including the old shoes. He left work in socks with a smile on his face. But that is not where the story ends.
You see, we are blessed to have a meal provided to us by Kaiser on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Chris went down and picked up his meal, but instead of going to the break room and enjoying it, he divided it into two plates and shared all of it with an elderly couple who were at the bedside of their very sick son. They couldn't drive at night, and it was already dark outside. Meal options were limited to delivery, and/or walking to the cafeteria, one with a cane and the other with a walker. In a busy ER, we are often guilty of not rounding on our patients enough or spending quality time with them, let alone proactively meeting the needs of family members. Chris made this Christmas special for all of us who were around him to witness his acts of kindness and charity. He is an exemplary nurse that met the needs of this patient and family on multiple levels. I am sure he is not happy with me making this public, but a heart of gold is a medal we proudly display, and Chris has a heart of gold!
P.S. The patient ended up being transferred to the PCU soon after and gave Chris a huge hug and thanked him for his care.
