Arden is the type of nurse who always desires what is right for the patient(s). She is a coworker who consistently has your back and will offer help no matter what, even if it is inconvenient for her. I don’t know how she does it…that is her. It is her normal persona; she is not just someone trying to be nice. She is genuinely kind, a nurse that will help you admit, discharge, or take a patient to the washroom, even when she is not assigned to care for that patient. She is always ready to lend a helping hand and knows how to make a busy day, easy and less stressful. Additionally, she is a smart and proactive nurse. There was a situation in the past when a patient was in the holding area and the GI nurse was struggling to secure their IV access. The patient was getting frustrated, and the GI doctor was being impatient, waiting to start the procedure. Suddenly Arden was there. She was about to leave to go home for the day and came back to say goodbye to me. I hesitated to ask her if she would start the IV, and then at the last minute ended up making that request to her. She said she would not mind, retracted her badge from the clocking-out machine, and started the IV without hesitation. The patient was very thankful, this was the second time this physician was attempting to do an EGD on him and now because he had a patent IV the procedure was going to happen. I was grateful – to Arden for being who she is- generous and never selfish. She consistently places patients’ needs first and is a perfect example of a nurse. Instead of leaving to be with her family, she responded to the call of a patient.
