This past month has been a difficult one as we have had many deaths. 2020 was an extremely difficult year at the height of the pandemic. Our deaths have not only been COVID-19 related, some are just end-of-life circumstances. we had three deaths in the past two weeks. One nurse who stands out in my mind, going above and beyond, is Victoria Robinson. She said that ever since losing a loved one to COVID, she did not want to let a single patient die alone while she was working. and she hasn't. The first patient that died was not even her patient but she could see that the heart rate was decelerating and breathing was slowing on the monitor. This was a COVID patient, so Victoria put all her PPE on and told the primary nurse that she was going in, "she can't die alone, I'll stay with her." Victoria went into this patient’s room and held her hand, played music on the television, and spoke softly to the patient. She did this again for the next two patients that died later that week and the week after. I have never seen a nurse so selfless and compassionate. She is so determined that no patient dies alone. Her compassion and kindness are rare and I feel she should be recognized as a DAISY Nurse.
