Each one said, “a nurse named Aileen helped me.”
As nurses, it is our duty to care for our patients, so it takes a great nurse to ensure that patients receive quality care and even a greater nurse to take care of someone else’s patients. Aileen saved me! Today, I was running very behind due to having emergent patient conditions (RAPID) and back-to-back discharges/admits. With this being said, I was not able to attend to my patient’s needs in a timely manner—eventually being behind on meds and call light requests. Toward the end of my shift I knew I would have to stay over if I did not have help. I was drowning; Aileen saved me. By the time I transferred my patient and completed my discharge/admits, my meds were passed, and my patients were well taken care of. I rounded and found everyone clean, fed, not complaining of pain, and needs met. Each one said, “a nurse named Aileen helped me.” I could not be more grateful and wanted to make sure that Aileen is recognized for going above and beyond. She went above her assignment, she saw past her patient needs, and realized the struggles of her fellow nurse.
