Lacy is always known as a compassionate leader who shows support and respect towards all of her employees.
Many questions come to mind when a nurse thinks of who makes a great leader. Are they kind? Are they extraordinary? Do they foster care and compassion? Do they motivate and mentor others? When we read these questions and ask who does all this and more, the first person that comes to mind is Lacy Bailey. Lacy’s first priority to all of her staff and fellow leaders is promoting an image of nursing that makes others proud and makes patients and their community immediately think of the Winter Haven Hospital nursing staff as compassionate, caring, and safe. She has always promoted that patient safety and kindness towards patients should be the backbone of every nurse who walks into her teams and has always promoted teamwork as the cornerstone for creating a safe and kind environment. Her motivation and enthusiasm towards creating a team environment has set a standard for others that allows them to work together, critically think and problem solve together, and network with others throughout the hospital. Her team mentality is what allows nurses to be built up into future leaders and allows them to speak up for their patients’ needs. She never says “I” – everything is always “How can We make this better for our team?” or “How can We better educate our nurses, so this doesn’t happen again?”
Lacy is always known as a compassionate leader who shows support and respect towards all of her employees. She will always listen to a nurse’s needs, ask them how she can help them, and come up with a solution that helps the team member in the most positive way possible. She is a mother in every aspect, and her employees know that she will support them through whatever situation they are met with. She never places blame on an employee – when an event occurs, she always says, “How did We fail you? How can We make sure this doesn’t happen again? What can We do to sure you understand you are doing ok?” Employees respond positively to compassion like this, and it’s how Lacy retains consistent staff over many years.
Most importantly, Lacy is an extraordinary mentor and role model to her ANMs and PCLs. She takes the time to listen to their goals and dreams and pushes them to do more in their roles to achieve those goals. She will listen to their crazy ideas and talk it out with them to make sure everything is thought of before initiating it on the floor. She builds them up to be extraordinary leaders themselves and sets the example of how one should lead a floor, talk to others, and create relationships with their staff. Lacy Bailey will build you, push you, dance with you, cry with you, eat with you, laugh with you, and make you feel like the nurse you deserve to be. She will never ask you to do something she won’t do herself. She will always be present for you and take care of you. Ultimately, Lacy is the definition of a DAISY Nurse Leader. Thank you.
