Annie reassured me and helped me feel less worried in a scary situation.
I was scheduled to be induced for the birth of my first child. I was pretty nervous because my work history includes being a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse and I am currently a nurse in the Pediatric Cardiac Cath Lab. Although all of the Labor and Delivery staff were fantastic, I would like to specifically talk about the excellent care my nurse Annie Sheehan gave me. She treated me like a lifetime friend and a close loved one. Annie was my night shift nurse and she could tell I was getting discouraged when I had been admitted since 0500 that morning and hadn't progressed much. She was in my room every 20-30 minutes helping me switch positions and titrating my Pitocin drip. She always provided encouraging words and did everything to make sure I was comfortable. Once I started progressing my baby started to have a couple of decelerations- she was very quick to advocate for me and made the executive decision to have my baby internally monitored. She reassured me and helped me feel less worried in a scary situation. Once it was time to push, she could tell I was extremely uncomfortable, so she suggested a bolus through my epidural and I agreed. She collaborated with the anesthesiologist and he was in my room administering medication within 5 minutes. After the medication was administered, I was extremely comfortable. Annie coached me through pushing before my OB doctor even arrived. She was so creative with different pushing methods and that really helped me deliver my son as quickly as I did. Annie was really involved in my care, she even stayed after her shift to watch me welcome my son into the world. Being a nurse myself, I know nurses like her are hard to find. She is a true DAISY Nurse and I feel so blessed to have had her as my nurse.
