Jenny replied that he was sleeping and suggested she sing him a song to let him know she was there with him.
Jenny came to us at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, in her last year of Nursing Course. You could tell she was scared and very nervous, but very keen to learn from the ward. I will always remember her coming up to me and asking me a question. And I explained to her that it was fine for her to ask a question because unless you don’t ask you won’t learn.
As the weeks went by you could see her improving massively she was improving on her skills and her ability to multitask, some of her work has been exceptional and very made aware of, her patient contact with patients has been very touching, she treats everyone with respect and kindness and nothing is ever too much to ask. She is good at dealing with relatives with concerns or issues and updating them accordingly.
I remember this one patient one time where Jenny was video calling them and the granddaughter was talking to him and she asked why grandad wasn't waking up? Jenny replied that he was sleeping and suggested she sing him a song to let him know she was there with him. This was very touching as already a stressful time the pandemic has been. It was nice to listen to someone showing compassion and empathy.
Now you would think she was a couple of years into post already.
She is a pleasure to have on the ward and brings smiles all around and she is a big pleasure to work with. She is going to become a fantastic nurse. She needs to be shown how much she has come from her first day. Her smile brings joy to everyone and the patients love her!
