Sheila has been taking care of a patient, S, with a tragic history. Two years ago, almost to the day, she came to Saddleback with bleeding and pain @ 39weeks pregnant. The patient and baby were in trouble and our team worked as hard as they could but were unable to save her baby boy. Mom ended up in the ICU extremely sick requiring multiple blood transfusions She has now returned to our hospital. 34weeks pregnant with a baby girl! Because she is a high risk she will remain on our unit until she delivers. Thanks to our old friend Covid, she is unable to be visited by her children. This also means that her spouse cannot visit often because childcare is not always available. Today is Easter. Sheila took care of S during her last admission and the two immediately remembered each other when Sheila walked into the room yesterday. They have a special bond and it is noticeable when you walk into the room. S is unable to be visited by her spouse or children today and this broke Sheila's heart. On her break, she decided to go to the store and surprise S with her own Easter goodies. Flowers, the cutest Easter cake you have ever seen, a balloon to brighten her room, and obviously a large chocolate bunny!!! Being in the hospital, away from your children and family, any day of the week is hard, but to be away on such a special family holiday is heartbreaking and lonely. Sheila worked hard to bring some sunshine and happiness to S's day.
