Amber was on over the weekend and showed me the most exceptional care.
On Friday, of a bank holiday weekend, my husband and I found ourselves in A&E with our baby boy of 7 months. He hadn’t been very well for a couple of weeks, and we had been in and out of hospital throughout the week with concerns of him getting worse. He had a fever and swelling under his arm which was getting progressively worse as the week went on. In the light of Covid, it meant only I could stay on the ward and my husband couldn’t be with us. Due to the bank holiday weekend we were unable to get any scan to validate what B's issues were and it was truly a scary time. The waiting, not knowing exactly what the issues were with B and being a first time mum with a pandemic baby (that has very little involvement from any agencies), I felt extremely isolated, second-guessing constantly if I had done anything wrong and if my baby was ill because of me.

Amber was on over the weekend and showed me the most exceptional care, liaising constantly with the very busy consultants for me, taking time to talk through one-on-one everything, and being everything I needed when my support network was unable to be with me. She was so kind and supportive and gave me the strength I needed when I was running on empty. A good nurse allows a parent to continue to care for their child when they want to crumble; Amber was the rock I needed in UHCW when my husband couldn’t be there with me. Thank you so much for the time and care you provided for me and my little boy B - I will always appreciate what you did for us and I’m sure you will never know the strength you gave me to carry on when I was running on empty!
