Joy Celeste is the perfect example of the Love and Respect value of Amana Healthcare. Celeste provided comfort and care in a way that the patient and family needed in a very difficult time.
Celeste is kind and demonstrates consistently Amana Healthcare's values. She is requested by all patients in service and liked by all families. She recently was on duty with one of our palliative patients who had been admitted to acute care. While she was on duty, the patient passed away. Although this patient was terminally ill, there were hopes and plans shared by the patient and family for traveling abroad for care. Celeste was not one of the patient's "regular" nurses but was liked by the family who had expressed relief in seeing her name in the scheduled list of staff to be bedside with the patient. On the day the patient passed away, Celeste extended well past her shift/hours. She stayed with the family (who were all present) and provided support to the patient's elderly husband and supported him as they moved the patient's body to the morgue and then ensured he was safely in his transportation home. I believe this is the perfect example of the Love and Respect value of Amana. Following up with Celeste, she said that the family was very thankful to all of the Amana nurses. She had a sense that she shouldn't have been the nurse on duty at the time of the patient's passing as there were other staff nurses who had been allocated more to the patient and may have had a stronger relationship with the patient. I think this is what makes Celeste a great nurse. Although she may not have had the long-term relationship with the patient as some of our other nurses, she was able to provide comfort and care in a way that the patient and family needed in a very difficult time.
