Leah surpassed our expectations and truly partnered with us to make this patient’s experience the best it could be in a difficult situation.
Leah is the ThedaCare Program Specialist for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. She is one of 40 nurses in the state to be SANE-A certified. Leah is dedicated to ensuring that people who have experienced sexual assault are treated in a respectful and compassionate manner wherever they present. She truly makes a difference in the lives of many. Recently, Leah’s expertise as a SANE-A nurse was sought out for a sensitive obstetric patient situation. When we contacted Leah, our hope was that she would provide guidance and recommendations for how to best provide care for this patient. Needless to say, Leah surpassed our expectations and truly partnered with us to make this patient’s experience the best it could be in a difficult situation. Not only did she provide advice, but she also went above and beyond and met with the patient and accompanied her to office visits. She also made sure that the patient was set up with appropriate agencies for follow-up both before and after discharge. Her knowledge and connections with community resources were invaluable. Caring for this type of patient can be difficult for the caretakers. Leah partnered with the manager and staff at the clinical site that would be providing care to the patient. She met with staff and ensured that they were educated and prepared to provide sensitive and appropriate care to this vulnerable patient. Leah also made sure that the staff themselves were equipped with ways to manage their feelings and emotions regarding this situation. Leah truly embodies the spirit of a DAISY Nurse. She has gone above and beyond- traveling outside her normal work environment to ensure that this patient and care team had what they needed. Her genuine, respectful, and compassionate care made a difference in the life of this patient.
