Daysha displayed outstanding dedication to her patient.
Our unit admitted a patient that recently had a c-section while her baby remained in the nursery. The plan for the night was to allow the mother to go visit her baby as long the size of her fundus declined appropriately and there were no additional safety concerns. The staff nurses on our unit do not have a competency for this and were reliant on L&D nurses for appropriate checks. There was a delay in the timing of their arrival at our unit.

During this time the nurse kept encouraging the patient and worked with L&D so the assessment would be done. The patient was determined well enough to visit her baby and Daysha transported the mother to do so. The following day, the patient was unfortunately intubated. Daysha determined a way for the mother to see her baby by asking the other unit to facetime. Since they did not have an IPAD on the unit, L&D used their charge phone.

Further in the night, Daysha read a note expressing the patient's interest in breastfeeding. Again, the nurse showed dedication in consulting L&D nurses to help her learn how to help the mother pump milk while she was intubated with the patient's consent. Daysha displayed outstanding dedication to her patient while helping her view the newborn and determining her needs with breast pumping when it had not been thought of post-intubation.
