Kaitlyn prayed with the family and told her patient, “You are beginning a new journey in your life; we are here to support you through this difficult time.”
Let me tell you the story of this young man. He came to the hospital last April on 3 West during COVID. The patient was admitted and felt comforted by Kaitlyn. (The hospital was not allowing visitation). She never skipped a beat and was always positive. The next day, the provider asked for his parents to come to the hospital as they needed to transfer him to Hershey. This is when the patient received the news that he had cancer. Kaitlyn prayed with the family and told her patient, “You are beginning a new journey in your life; we are here to support you through this difficult time.” The young man was able to receive a bone marrow transplant from his father and he was so excited to get this news. He and his family have been through a lot over the past year. Unfortunately, several months after the transplant he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He fought hard but it was his time. His journey was short at the age of 27. Kaitlyn was heartbroken when she found out the news of this patient. Kaitlyn sent his family wind chimes called “The winds of heaven” with a note sending lots of love and prayers for you all in this season. Love, Kaitlyn Moats, RN 3 West. Forever grateful to Kaitlyn for making this lasting impression. The patient’s family was beyond touched by Kaitlyn's kindness.
