Erin made a farewell NICU graduation card ahead of time. This was really thoughtful of her and showcased the care and connection she had built with her.
Our daughter was born at 35 weeks and spent the next 6 weeks in the NICU at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital. The care provided during this time by the doctors and nurses was outstanding. Though there were so many nurses who made us feel our daughter was in great hands at the hospital, we would like to nominate Erin McGrath for the DAISY award. She was our baby’s primary nurse during the last few weeks of her stay. We felt Erin established a special connection with our baby. She took the time and effort to not only take care of the standard things one would expect but went beyond to do special activities with our baby. We would come to the NICU to find pictures of our daughter, her room decorated with artwork and she would tell us about the moments she and our baby shared together. Erin knew she would not be on duty on the day of our daughter’s discharge, so she made a farewell NICU graduation card ahead of time. This was really thoughtful of her and showcased the care and connection she had built with her. Erin was very compassionate with us and understood our mental state. As first-time parents, it was really stressful for us to see our little girl in the NICU for so long. She encouraged us to ask as many questions as we had until we were satisfied and made us feel comfortable to call as many times as necessary to check on the status of our little girl when we could not be at the NICU. The one thing which stood out with Erin was her responsiveness when our baby would be crying. She always made time to attend to her even when she had not been in the room previously, and come in to pacify her. On nights Erin would be her nurse, we felt an extra sense of comfort that there was someone to hold her and rock her to sleep when she was crying. This was a big relief for us. Thank you so much, Erin McGrath, and all the wonderful staff of St. Vincent for helping us get through this turbulent time and for taking amazing care of our daughter.
