Andrew turned away the patient transfer volunteer who showed up with a wheelchair and said he will not make my (barely conscious) son get into a chair and chose to move him in the bed upstairs himself.
Andrew was nominated by the mother of a patient who had this to say about him: “Andrew explained everything he had to do before he did it as well as take time to teach other nurses while not compromising my son's care. He not only double-checked the lines for fluid and insulin drips, but he also triple-checked them while following the line back to the monitor. He also labeled each line, and when necessary, he reinserted a new line before my son was transferred to the floor. He even apologized for having to do it because it is not pleasant and he wanted to be sure it was "right" before transferring from the ER to the floor. When it was time to move to the floor, Andrew turned away the patient transfer volunteer who showed up with a wheelchair and said he will not make my (barely conscious) son get into a chair and chose to move him in the bed upstairs himself. While during the transfer, he pointed out the view from the 11th floor stating that we are taking the scenic route and he showed us the game room and nourishment room for ice chips. I am grateful for the outstanding care my son received from the entire staff, but because Andrew took the time to pay attention to details regarding the insulin drip and took the time to take us up to the floor, I would like to see that he is recognized with the DAISY Award as he is clearly a role model for others and one of the best!” Thank you, Andrew, for exemplifying Kaleida Health’s core values and demonstrating what it means to lead with CARE!
