During the visitor restriction, Sonia made sure patients did not fight Covid-19 alone.
Our nurses and staff have had the pleasure of working with Sonia for many years and are fortunate to have witnessed firsthand her ability to lead and effectively manage the Telemetry and Medical-Surgical Unit. As our Nurse leader, she does not take her position for granted. She possesses a unique method of managing our unit and leads by example. Her compassion and sincerity extend beyond her commitment to our patients. She also devotes time to bring joy and motivation to our staff and colleagues. Sonia fulfills her role as our team leader with grace and motivation.

Furthermore, she has truly shined in the midst of the pandemic and wore many hats without complaining or showing any frustration. During the visitor restriction, Sonia made sure patients did not fight Covid-19 alone. She became their family support. She went above and beyond her role as a manager to comfort patients, answer call lights, and made an extra effort to ensure patients felt comfortable, safe, and secure by connecting many of the patients to their family members via video chat. As a result, this alleviated many of the tasks and stressors from her nurses. She manages the unit with a fierce heart, kindness, and compassion by always making herself available to staff and colleagues. She has an open door policy as she makes time for everyone, despite her busy schedule, she never turned anyone away.

Under the most difficult of circumstances, Sonia has managed to maintain a positive work environment for all of us. She always aims for staff satisfaction and increasing morale by creating a sense of family amongst all levels of staff. Sonia believes that work should be a place where everyone has a voice and where all members of the team are encouraged to grow. We appreciate how we are each nurtured and encouraged to make a difference in our own way, yet still receive guidance, support, and constructive criticism when necessary.
