Jayme provided skillful nursing care, compassion, kindness, and respect to this woman and her family over 3 days as the patient's brain aneurysm continued to grow.
Jayme took exemplary care of a young woman and her family through an impossible situation in the ICU at UPMC Mercy Hospital. She provided skillful nursing care, compassion, kindness, and respect to this woman and her family over 3 days as the patient's brain aneurysm continued to grow. She even came in on her own time to see this young woman off to a surgery that the surgeons, patient, and the patient's family knew she would likely not survive the complications. Jayme picked up the night shift the young woman returned from the OR after an excruciating long surgery/interventional radiology case so that continuity of care would not be interrupted for this patient. Jayme helped the family cope with the obviously poor outcome of the surgery when the young patient returned to the ICU from the OR at 130 in the AM with no neurological function. While this young patient was ultimately made comfort measures and passed the day after her surgery, Jayme provided a caring heart and compassionate shoulder for the family for the bulk of their time at UPMC Mercy.
