Rebecca calmed the patient’s wife, told the patient’s wife what to look for.
Rebecca is an absolutely amazing nurse and charge nurse. She consistently goes above and beyond to make a connection with each and every patient on the unit. Rebecca recently cared for a very chronically ill cancer patient who was an extremely difficult discharge and disposition. The patient’s wife was very anxious to take the patient home as he was at high risk for readmission. To calm the wife's nerves, Rebecca provided her personal cell phone number and let her know that if she needs anything she could reach out to her for support. The first night the patient was home, home health did not show up to administer the patient’s antibiotics and the wife began to panic; the first thing she did was call Rebecca as she was on the verge of bringing the patient back to the ED. Rebecca calmed the patient’s wife, told the patient’s wife what to look for. She promised that she would follow up first thing in the morning and ensure that this will be remedied immediately. Rebecca came to work the next day and escalated all concerns to care coordination who was able to ensure that home health arrived at the house first to administer the antibiotics.
