Lisa did not let it end there, she continued to ask the appropriate questions and use her detective skills and saw that the patient took meds that included ASA.
It is difficult to make a connection with a patient and family member in the procedural world. The patients are with the staff for such a short time frame that the procedural nurse is forgotten when the customer service comments are made. However, the procedural nurses are compassionate and caring and always go above and beyond to protect the patient. The procedural nurses are the experts in their respective fields and know what is needed to be done to have the best outcome. Lisa was prepping an outpatient that needed to hold his blood thinners for the procedure. She knows this from experience and evidence-based research. While prepping the patient and developing a relationship with the patient, he disclosed that he has back pain. She did not let it end there, she continued to ask the appropriate questions and use her detective skills and saw that the patient took meds that included ASA. She reached out to the IR MD and they decided to reschedule the patient for his safety. The patient was appreciative and continued to thank Lisa for her knowledge. The patient was rescheduled and came back after his ASA hold for his procedure.
