It's all thanks to Yesenia for going so far above and beyond the call.
During the pandemic in the ICU, we had very few victories or happy moments. One of our patients had recently undergone an emergency C-section and was terribly sick. We were able to get her better, but she had not met her baby that was born over a month ago. She spent all day watching the baby cam we set up on an iPad in her room, and she would even ring the call bell to have us log back in the second it would log out. We contacted the NICU, and immediately Yesenia took on the challenge to reunite the pair. She worked with her coworkers, providers, attendings, and pediatric infection control to find out the best way to make it work. She and another nurse took over an hour out of their day to bring the baby to our unit and put her in her mother's arms for the first time. It touched all of us on 2K South, let alone the incredible shift in tone and character that the mother went through. She continues to do better, and I fully believe seeing her baby brought her the strength to keep pushing forward. It's all thanks to Yesenia for going so far above and beyond the call.
