Katie made sure the patient was aware and was in the room 5 min prior to the start of the live stream The patient had a "stage-front" seat to see her son walk across the stage and accept his diploma.
"Katie is an exceptional Nurse. The patient was so upset because she was in the hospital and missing her granddaughter's 1st birthday party and her youngest son was graduating from College. Each time Katie came in to check on the patient she would kneel at the bedside and lean in to talk directly to the patient and offer different options to help her cope. She would always ask if "she needed anything else." Katie is a true model of a Nurse. Compassionate, caring, and looking at the patient as a whole and not a number. Katie and another Nurse researched the link for the "online live version of the graduation" and Katie made sure the patient was aware and was in the room 5 min prior to the start of the live stream and pulled it up on the computer, made sure it was loud enough and the computer was where the patient could see it. The patient had a "stage-front" seat to see her son walk across the stage and accept his diploma. A better view than if she had been there in person. Katie also understood and was an advocate for the patient with the doctor about receiving a unit of blood. Her levels were borderline, but the patient felt she needed the blood and Katie informed the doctor. She was so supportive of the patient. I am a Nurse of 30 plus years and so is the patient. It was heartwarming to see and feel the true Nursing that Katie provided.
