Mary stayed with her and held her hand and prayed with her during her passing. Our family member had peace with her passing but expressed “I don’t have to die all alone.”
Mary Tiernan is a special, caring nurse who will always have a special place in the hearts of our family. This nurse took care of our family member while she was fighting COVID in the ICU and took care of her several times during the 2 week stay. On her last day, Mary arranged for the family to visit after explaining to her husband that the patient wanted to start palliative care. The family was able to visit with her through the window and talk on the phone with her. Mary offered support while the patient talked with her husband, children, and sister for the last time. After the family left, palliative care was started, and her passing happened quickly. Mary stayed with her and held her hand and prayed with her during her passing. Our family member had peace with her passing but expressed “I don’t have to die all alone.” This had to have been comforting for our family member to have this special nurse holding her hand, I know it meant the world to the family to have someone be there with her when we were not allowed.
