Emily took it upon herself to do research on the patient with no provided resources to uncover the patient's identity.
Emily has demonstrated the characteristics and qualities of a true DAISY Nurse. I have interacted with Emily several times in the ICU and we have shared many patients. She has always been very helpful in terms of patient and medical care, as well as giving up her own personal time for the betterment of the patient. I have witnessed Emily balance the duties of a charge nurse, while also maintaining a high standard of care for the most complex and at risk patients. One example that stands out in particular occurred when a patient was unresponsive, intubated, and no family/home information was available. Emily took it upon herself to do research on the patient, with no provided resources, to uncover the patient's identity, locate and contact family, and passed on the information to our case management/social work experts. Emily demonstrated significant compassionate care, without asking for praise or compensation, all for the enhancement of the patient's quality of life. This is only one example out of numerous tasks and challenges that Emily faces each day and always comes to work with empathy and knowledge necessary to perform the highly skilled patient care. Along with all this, Emily also has taken several new graduate nurses and students under her wing to further improve the quality of care and skills necessary for Saint Thomas West to remain a high quality and efficient hospital.
