Kenneth stayed with the patient, in full isolation gear, for four hours so that the patient did not die alone.
Kenneth Florida was the nurse for a close family friend of ours. The patient was Covid positive and had been in the hospital for several weeks. At the beginning of his shift, the patient told Kenneth that he no longer wanted aggressive therapy and wanted to pass away peacefully without oxygen. Kenneth communicated this to the care team quickly and transitioned the patient to comfort care. He also called the patient’s wife immediately. The patient's wife was able to come up and be with the patient because of Kenneth's proactive nursing care and good communication with families. Kenneth not only educated the patient about everything that was going to happen but also stayed with the patient, in full isolation gear, for four hours so that the patient did not die alone. Although death is hard, knowing that our family friend did not have to depart this life alone comforted not only me but also the patient's family. Kenneth's deep reverence for others and dedication to his patients make him an amazing nurse and a great asset to STR. He exhibits the values held by this organization on a daily basis.
