Once again, Lindsay walked into my room and immediately reassured me, and successfully placed a new PICC for me.
I am a nurse at Riverside and this past year have experienced some health issues that have allowed me to experience Riverside from the patient’s perspective. I was hospitalized from pregnancy-related complications and ended up needing a PICC line. As a nurse, I have seen a PICC line being placed probably hundreds of times during my career and have cared for many patients with PICC’s. I know just about everything you need to know about PICC’s, however, when it was decided that I needed one I became incredibly anxious.
When the PICC team came to my room I immediately started crying from the anxiety of being on the patient end of things. Lindsay was my nurse and was so kind and reassuring. I have worked with her many times in a professional manner, so I knew she was amazing but to experience her compassion and professionalism as a patient was a whole different experience. She calmed me down and walked me through the whole process. She was personal and even shared a similar experience that she has walked through. She gave me her personal number and told me to contact her with any questions or concerns regarding my PICC.
A few months later I had to come back to the ER to rule out infection surrounding my line. I was terrified once again and felt very uncomfortable being the patient in the ER waiting to be seen. Every complication went through my mind! Once again, Lindsay walked into my room and immediately reassured me, and successfully placed a new PICC for me. The past year has been challenging for me physically and mentally, but the kindness shown to me in some of my darkest moments will never be forgotten.
