Carrie was able to make time for something that might seem unimportant to others but made a huge difference to a toddler who is stuck in the hospital.
On the CPCU we recently had a four-year-old patient on the floor for over six months waiting to receive a heart transplant. While he was very sick, he was also a toddler who wanted to play and explore the world around him! Carrie was his bedside nurse one day after a pretty big snowstorm. Carrie took it upon herself to go outside, pack up the cleanest snow she could find, and carry it up seven flights of stairs for the patient to see and play with the snow! Since he was unable to leave his room much less the hospital, this was likely the only snow he would see during the Colorado winter. The patient and his family talked about how much this meant to them for weeks to come.

Carrie was able to make time for something that might seem unimportant to others but made a huge difference to a toddler who is stuck in the hospital. It’s easy to get complacent when patients are with us for so long, but Carrie took care of this patient as if it was his first and only day in the hospital. Carrie provided exceptional care on this day, but also every day she comes to work.
