Anna attended every delivery, every emergency, and every admission, with no complaint. She was calm, respectful, and supportive to not only her coworkers but also her patients.
I have been wanting to write this for a couple of weeks, but we have been quite busy-for which I am thankful. I wanted to bring recognition to Anna Martinez for her extraordinary work and leadership. Anna has always been a wonderful co-worker and teammate, but on this day, she shined. We were extremely busy and she was our relief charge nurse who was working an extra shift. It started out pretty typical, all of our nurses had their assignments and we had patients scheduled to come in for procedures. In a matter of minutes, we had a crash C-section, which was a success and taken care of and recovered. Not long after, followed two vaginal deliveries and a scheduled C-section that was pushed back due to our earlier emergency. We were back on schedule and then our crash C-section from earlier coded. Meanwhile, we still had patients being triaged and admitted (6 admissions). It must have been 40 minutes and the Patient who coded was transferred and moved off the floor. It was just our luck that a patient down in CCU was delivering a baby. It is my intent to set up the early part of the day to show how busy and chaotic it was. cI almost feel as if she was a platoon leader, never to leave anyone behind. She is always encouraging, asking if there is anything she can help with, and would not ask you to do anything she would not do herself. I believe UMC, Labor and delivery, and most importantly her patients are lucky to have Anna Martinez here for them. I believe Anna’s contributions that day kept everyone motivated and our patients safe. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
