The compassion and heart Kate brings to work each day are worn proudly on her sleeve.
Kate began by introducing herself to me and continued to show kindness and passion in and through her work. No matter what issue presented itself to her, or what role she held on staff, she performed her duty with an energetic and wholesome spirit. Whenever Kate was around the atmosphere of the unit became brighter and more enjoyable. Kate works nights and is, according to coworkers, often overlooked for that reason. The compassion and heart she brings to work each day are worn proudly on her sleeve. I spent a short period of time under the care of Kate, but when she was around she always found a moment to listen to her patients and speak on a plethora of topics. My stay was plagued with restless nights, and when I was unable to sleep, Kate was there to hear my concerns about medications and was so happy, cheerful, and available, it became infectious. This became an infection I happily spread with fervor around the unit. Beyond her job as a caretaker in a medical setting, she expressed her empathy for the patients under her care, having been a patient at one point herself. Her desire to help others shone through as she helped me understand how important to me it was to help others in a similar manner to how she did. Our time was short together, but I never saw her without a smile, or with an untasteful word on her tongue. Her story brings hope to me and my future, and I will seriously consider an occupation in the medical field caring as Kate does. I wish our conversations had been longer, and no matter what is in Kate’s future, I’m sure it will bring joy to all!
