In what I can imagine was a traumatic scene, Abby worked with grace. She kept her whole team focused, as well as my husband and me.
I wanted to share my experience and thank those who have helped me. I hope that the nurses involved that day can read this email. I would like to acknowledge my deepest appreciation towards the charge nurse Abby, and her team of nursing staff that worked with her the early morning hours the day I gave birth. I gave birth to my 9th child in the evening. After what was a difficult delivery, I was transferred to couplet care and given a room. Unbeknownst to all of us, my uterus had ruptured at some point during labor or shortly afterward, resulting in emergency surgery and a mass blood transfusion. After what may have been an hour in my room, I went to use the restroom and quickly realized I was in dire need of help and pulled the help cord. In what seemed like a blink of my eye, nurses stormed into the room, taking me back to bed, and requesting help from others. I know my doctor was called in, and I recall Abby being present. In what I can imagine was a traumatic scene, Abby worked with grace. She kept her whole team focused, as well as my husband and me. There was a calmness that surrounded me within their presence, at a time that no one would think calmness can exist. I recall knowing my situation was very serious, but the calmness of the team helped me from becoming hysterical. My baby was whisked away and kept safe. As I laid in the bed, loosing blood, everyone worked together with ease. The teamwork that was utilized was on point, orders were spoken out, not yelled, questions were had, and met with authoritative answers by the doctor and lead nurse. When hesitancy occurred due to the seriousness of the situation, others met that with direct action. I was highly impressed by the knowledge of the team and their togetherness. I think it was Abby who held my hand in my death grip! I hope I did not injure her! I truly value the staff that was working that morning, I felt safe and protected, and want to thank them for everything they did. Baby and I are doing fantastic after what was a very traumatizing situation. Thank you ladies for all of your hard work.
